The Ministry of Environment in Ontario is proposing new regulations for the recycling of electrical and electronic Equipment (EEE) and batteries.
The proposed changes include adding large batteries weighing more than 5 kilograms, meaning lead-acid batteries would no longer be exempt from stewardship.

Amendments to the Basel Convention
Non-hazardous plastic that is not recyclable or difficult to recycle is now classified as waste requiring special consideration, meaning transboundary movement of this material has been restricted. (Paraphrased from BIR report, below).
Other proposed changes to the Convention could restrict and control exports of additional scrap materials.
Adina Renee Adler, ISRI's senior director for government relations and international affairs, will provide an update on this issue during the Trade Panel session at CARI's 78th Annual Convention in Mont Tremblant, June 6-8.
US Steel and Aluminum tariffs removed and Canadian countermeasures lifted
As of May 20, the US removed the 25 per cent steel and 10 per cent aluminum tariffs imposed on Canada and Mexico last June. In response, Canada removed reciprocal tariffs on US steel and aluminum as well as duties on 70 other US products. Mexico removed similar countermeasures.
These tariffs were said to have been a barrier to the ratification of USMCA (the new NAFTA). Now that they have been lifted, it's expected that the three governments will attempt to ratify the trade deal.
