The
Canadian Association of Recycling Industries (CARI) represents over
260 companies in the recycling sector. Founded in 1941 in response
to an urgent call from the Canadian government for high quality
scrap metal to support the War effort CARI has evolved into a
powerful industry association representing companies from small
family scrap yards to massive capital intensive processing
plants. Members are
engaged in the recycling of all commodities, but the majority
currently deal primarily or exclusively in metals.
CARI is a
classic industry association. Its functions are to promote the
interests of the industry nationally and internationally; to work
with governments on policies affecting recycling; to inform the
public; to promote cooperation between member firms to solve common
problems and to develop and provide cost cutting services for
members. In short, every activity that CARI
undertakes is aimed at improving the economic position of our member
companies and promoting the recycling industry.
The fundamental purpose and mission of
CARI is:
To promote the optimal
net economic and social impact from commercial recycling activities.
